Esther’s Academy has since expanded and we are now in several locations across two continents. The Birmingham team went to train some members in South Africa (2016) and are capable to head to a city near you to train more groups on this phenomenal programme. The coordinators were asked a few questions to reveal to us the heart of who is leading the programmes.

Samurin Van Rooyen

My name is Samurin van Rooyen, I am the coordinator of South Africa Maraisburg, Johannesburg. I like to stay active as well as read the word and partake in social events. I do things like hiking in my spare time and annually I participate in Avon Justine iThemba and PnP Walkathons in support of Cancer drives. I believe my God given calling is to bring women from all walks of life to discover their worth in Christ, as we each have unique abilities as well as to inspire and uplift them. Women are the backbone of any society and almost always they stand in the shadows. Over the years I've brought ladies together through Women's Conferences and allowed them to showcase their 'goodies'-exhibiting clothes, jewellery, accessories, etc. At our local church, I've organized workshops to develop skills such as flower arranging, motivational talks and more. This was mainly done to encourage them to use their creativity to 'relieve their financial burden’ (2 Kings 4:2-7). Other than this we've had Reading classes, ran holiday programmes for children, charity work on Saturday's at Door of Hope (an orphanage) to mention but a few. My aim is not to set a platform to dominate but to appreciate each women's gifts-let her light shine for God in her house, community, workplace and beyond. She needs to be acknowledged for her strength and as a daughter of the Most High-as she is valued and precious in His sight. My desire is to let every woman feel appreciated and through Esther women are shown love, acceptance and friendship. As the coordinator I stand amazed at the transformation some of the ladies have undergone-some are naturally shy and withdrawn but like little caterpillars, the butterflies broke through their cocoons in the 'safe' space created during Esther sessions. This is even more incredible, as they've indicated keen interest to be the next set of facilitators!

New friendships, sisterhoods, have been formed, they're sharing experiences and build each other up. The ladies are excited to meet, after the last meeting, I received a WhatsApp asking when and where as they miss the time spent together- my heart was overjoyed.
